Overcome your Fears

Fear can control our persona and actions.

It can also be one of the main obstacles in our life.

Fear can destroy our dreams, motivations, and activities.

Every so often, we can experience fear about taking on a new job opportunity, launching a business idea, moving, buying a new house, losing friends and families, or fear of the unknown.

“Frequently fear kills our dreams more than failure ever will.”

Fear, descriptionI like how the following quote describes fear in our lives and how it’s inflicted mostly by ourselves.

“Fear is an idea-crippling, experience-crushing, success-stalling, inhibitor, inflicted only by yourself.” — Stephanie Melih

I think many times we are our number one critic. We so easily put ourselves down, creating fears in our mind that will crush our self-esteem and making it very difficult for us to move forward.

I want to tell you today about a story in the bible of a man who overcame his obstacles: It’s in the book of Luke chapter 19 verses 2-4:

“Now behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature. So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him, for He was going to pass that way.”

The bible says he couldn’t see over the crowd because he was small in stature.

Zacchaeus had the option to sit there whining and complaining about his inability to see Jesus and his height.  I’m pretty sure that Zacchaeus felt fear of climbing the tree and falling, fear that there was no way out, fear of giving up and going back home, and fear of the big crowds.

Like any of us, Zacchaeus feared, his personal opinion will stand his way, and what others said or thought of him.  He probably even feared his political status and wealth.

But Zacchaeus chose wisely, to control his fears over missing an opportunity of his life. He climbed that tree to see Jesus and to see the men he knew would change his life forever.

Do you want to overcome your fears?  Do you feel like you have so much more to give? But maybe feeling stuck in your unreal thoughts?

Then climb that tree (not literally), take that leap of faith, and move out of your comfort zone.

There are those chances in life that are once in a life-time changing events. Like Zacchaeus, don’t let fear take away those once in a lifetime chances. Don’t let the uncertainty of unreal evidence cripple your dreams and life’s desire for growth.

Here are a few lessons from Zacchaeus story that could help us overcome our fears:

  • Don’t let the negative opinions of others or your own be an obstacle to reaching your highest potentials. ♥

  • Create a plan and executed.

  • That those individuals that surround you, be true believers in you and have a sincere desire of pushing you to strive for your best.

  • You are valuable regardless of your looks and circumstances.

  • Fix your eyes on God for He has “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11).

  • Focus on the good.

  • God is always there for us and He wants to offer the best, but we must reach out and get it.

  • Hard-work is required to accomplish your dreams for nothing will ever be handed over to us in silver plates.

  • Things may not always go as plan, but the important thing is not to give up.  If Plan A, didn’t work, then there are other letters in the alphabet.  If at first you can’t succeed then try again, again and again.

Overcome your Fears.

Better and greater things are in store for those that believe.
